"Maybe if I'm living right - I'll get to fall in love again. You have to ask for it and then just give up, and sometimes it happens." - Tommy Tune

Yeah, I read Tommy Tune's memoirs. Yeah, I'm quoting him. What?

I guess it's kind of a tradition...

what did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before? Went to Chicago.

did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? Not my style.

did anyone close to you give birth? Oh, tons of babies. Mario, Vincent, Casey, and a few more on the way!

did anyone close to you die? Actually, no. Though things got a little scary October 30th.

what countries did you visit? Does Pittsburgh count?

what would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006? An adult relationship.

what date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? May 19th. Apparently, I graduated college.

what was your biggest achievement of the year? Hair, graduation, moving to Manhattan.

what was your biggest failure? Letting myself be swept away by nothing.

did you suffer illness or injury? Not as many as usual.

what was the best thing you bought? Reefer Madness.

whose behavior merited celebration? John Kimmel, with his Military Excellence Award.

whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? The persons who forced me to act like I was in high school this summer.

where did most of your money go? Rent. I finally did not spend the majority of my money on alcohol. So *that's* growing up.

what did you get really, really, really excited about? The surprise of the century: driving to Pittsburgh to see all the Point Park kids.

what song will always remind you of 2006? Come on Eileen

compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? same
ii. thinner or fatter? same
iii. richer or poorer? definitely poorer.

what do you wish you'd done more of? Auditioning.

what do you wish you'd done less of? Worrying.

how did you spend Christmas? Decorating my dad's walker with Christmas lights.

did you fall in love in 2006? A qualified no.

how many one-night stands? Zero.

what was your favorite tv program? The Office, Project Runway, Studio 60, Weeds

do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Um, yeah, kinda.

what was the best book you read? Steal This Book, On the Road, Slaughterhouse Five, and The Unbearable Lightness of Being is turning out pretty well.

what was your greatest musical discovery? Reefer Madness

what did you want and get? A place in Manhattan

what did you want and not get? The Rent Tour.

what was your favorite film of this year? Little Miss Sunshine

what did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? Four hour commute to work in a tropical storm, walked through floods, worked, and went to the OB Diner for disco fries. Hooray 22!

what one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Unlimited funds.

how would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006? If it's not cotton, I'm probably not wearing it.

what kept you sane? My mother, when she wasn't the one driving me insane.

which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? John Krasinski.

what political issue stirred you the most? Saddam's execution is having a bit of an effect on me.

who did you miss? The Music Man guys, John, Gavin. There was a lot of missing someone over the summer, but that doesn't really apply now.

who was the best new person you met? Olivia Jayne Delia Petzy. Or Elaine.

tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006. Sometimes you need to resign your fate over to the universe. It might just take care of you.

quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Not in love, still I think I'm doing fine
Wouldn't it be a lovely headline:
"Life is Beautiful" on the New York Times? - Rufus Wainwright

My Friends are Talented

OK, so two of my friends are going to be performing on CBS's the Early Show this Thursday and Friday mornings for a contest called "My Broadway Debut". So if you're awake, watch. If you're not awake, vote for Amanda Snarski and Brianna Horne anyway.

This link can tell you more than I can. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/05/24/earlyshow/main1650962.shtml

Thanks for your attention.

Senior class and Mahayana both represented. I'm so proud of the people I know.

Well folks, I'm off to Lavallette for another fun filled summer of showtunes, ice cream and debauchery. My phone is no longer suffering from the painful blows I instilled upon it when I put it through the washer and dryer while doing laundry, so feel free to give it some use. I'm off during the week until the end of June, but once the summer kicks into full swing, so do I, and I work every night.

I'd love to see you guys. Visiting is fantastic. Have a safe summer!

P.S. Apparently I graduated. Um...

Long, beautiful Hair

I've got some time to kill before I catch the shuttle to the ferry, and since I'm relatively packed, and things are relatively clean, I thought I'd take the time to reflect on what will prove to be one of the most important and memorable experiences of my life. Run on sentence.

Hair. I consider myself undeniably lucky to be doing this show, at this point in my life, and in this point in time. As shallow as the play can seem, there are so many unseen layers that continue to surprise me when they are unearthed. We woke up Wednesday morning, the day of opening, to a blizzard. As if Claude and Berger wishing "the fuck it would snow at least" actually willed it. The snow in the show was obviously a bit more emotional than normal from that point on. Oh, and Galt McDermot was there to see opening. For an added bonus.

It seems like every night since then, the show has done something incredible. After dreading entering the audience during Flesh Failures (after all, we did it in the Music Man and it didn't really matter), it's come to be one of my favorite things to do. Seeing middle aged men and women crying and singing along to Let the Sun Shine In is moving, to put it lightly. And that shit's happening every night. Wagner Theatre might be doing something important here. And being a part of it is an honor.

I must say it's nice to have this week off from the show. Illness aside, I feel like the break is letting me prolong the inevitable ending of this show. I don't want it to be over. I can't imagine what closing will be. Not only closing, but closing my final show at Wagner. Not only closing my final show at Wagner, but closing Hair.

Where do I go? Follow the wind song...

It's nice to be excited for things again. I feel like I've been such a drag lately. I'm just too tired. But this weekend I let myself have fun. And get drunk. That hasn't happened in a while.

Oval weather has helped. Partied there Friday night, and then Saturday for Songfest. Saw Jesus Christ Superstar at Snug Harbor on Saturday, and loved it. It was great to see familiar people, but in an unfamiliar space. And then of course, it was a pleasure to hang out with the cast.

Tom is an excellent wingman. I definitely had game this weekend, but Tom helped it out. I miss male attention. It's nice when I get it. And it's good to know that I've still got it in me.

Hair is going well. First dress yesterday was a nightmare. I'm not sure anyone was ready for the amount of quick changes we have in the second act. Then, of course, we ran like, an hour over again...which is getting old. It's encouraging to see the show come together, but completely unnerving that tonight is our last night without an audience. It looks, however, that this production will be a better final experience at Wagner than I originally could have hoped for. And for that, I am thankful.

It's weird to have things wind down just as the energy starts coming up.

Happy St. Pat's Day, everyone!

I'm sitting at the Towers front desk right now. Hour 1.5 of 6. Ouch. I have plenty to do (get my ass off-book for Hair, work on my thesis, read A Series of Unfortunate Events, watch the Dolly Parton E!THS...), but instead, I'm doing this. Go figure. I haven't in a while, and it just feels like time. We'll run with it.

We heard from my brother at bootcamp. He's alive, and I guess doing pretty well. He seems slightly different than he was...more grounded...but definitely still himself. It's going to be weird to see him. Which it looks like I'll get to do! He's graduating Basic Training on Good Friday, which means I don't have shows or rehearsals and I get to fly out to Illinois. Holler. Psyched about that.

Spring Break '06 has been decent. Nothing like Spring Break '05, and that company is definitely missed. But it's been really nice to spend some time alone, and some time with people I don't usually have time for. Movies, beer, tv, beer, catchphrase. Tom and I watched Boondock Saints last night, to get us nice and riled up for being Irish. That movie gets me so rowdy. And it reminds me of my brother. He only admits we're Irish on St. Patrick's Day and when watching Boondock. He finds something about being Irish cliche. Only my brother...

Anyway, I guess I'm done here. Only four hours and thirteen minutes to go! Wish me luck.

Go get drunk. To honor my heritage.

Weekendular Bliss

This weekend must (and will) be recorded for all times. Last night, Brian Regan was appearing at Caroline's. And since Brian Regan is somewhat revered in my family, my brother, my cousin Sarah and I decided to go. I'd been looking forward to it for weeks. Not only seeing a fantastic comic, but also actually getting to hang out with my brother and see Sarah and such. I got into the city yesterday early to approve headshots, and decided to kill some time at the Drama Bookshop before meeting John at Port Authority. And right there, on West 40th street, I passed Norman Reedus. (imdb.com him if you don't know of whom I'm speaking). He smiled at me, we shared a moment, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be in that exact spot every Friday evening, just in case lightning strikes in the same spot twice.

Caroline's itself was great. We were seated right in the front, so that we were in the stage lights. And while that can be a dangerous place to be at a comedy club, we walked away pretty unscathed. There was a bachelorette party next to us, so they pretty much became the butt of everyone's jokes. But I'd never been to a comedy club, and holy crap, is it fun. I was practically crying from laughing so hard. I, of course, spent a bit too much money on drinks, but it was worth it. We came back here after, and John and I just chilled and drank before passing out hardcore. Didn't even hear Amy come in at 4am.

Today, I took John back into the city to catch a bus home, and we ran into Liz and her John on the shuttle. So we decided to go to Duke's for lunch before going our seperate ways. Between the Trivial Pursuit cards and the drinking at noon, a good time was had by all. And as we descended into the Union Square subway station, we heard a bit of a commotion. Upon closer inspection, the noise we heard was Michael Jackson's "Beat It", and there was a large circle of people surrounding the music. But we couldn't tell what it was that everyone was watching. Until we got a bit closer, and realized that it was a dancing midget. Let me tell you, you haven't lived until you've seen a midget dancing to Michael Jackson in a subway station.

So holler to weekends, especially the exciting ones. And who knows? This weekend could even get better...

Happy New Year, Folks

Happy New Year! I started off 2006 with a bang. Well, not really a bang, maybe a loud thud. But it was great. Went up to Leanne's with Tom and some people, drank, got silly, played games and watched the ball drop. I ended 2005 eating chicken wings, so it truly was More Chicken in '05. Back here New Year's Day for the annual party. Good group of people, lots of beer (my brother and I drank for 12 straight hours), and general merriment. It was good to see Leanne and Tom, and I'm much obliged for them dragging me out of my house.

My grandmother just left this morning. She had some trouble flying out of bad weather, and she has to land in California, where there's also bad weather, so hopefully that'll get worked out well enough. It was nice to have her here. My mother, grandmother and I are kind of all the same woman in certain respects, which is great unless our stubborness is concerned. So we kind of drive each other crazy. Despite that, I'm glad she was out here, sort of being distracted from her first holiday season without my grandfather.

Take the quiz:
what kind of drug are you? And I hope those things are orgies and rich food. <3

My Christmas can be summed up in these two anecdotes:

First, Christmas morning, I found two gray hairs. I'm now a gray-haired woman. I didn't even pluck them. Those bastards are staying there for a while.

Second, my uncle just got back from Cuba, where he was some sort of veteranairy ambassador or something. This was his second trip within the year or so, and this time, he met Fidel Castro. And Fidel Castro handed him a box of Cuban cigars. And those Cuban cigars made it to our Christmas celebration. So after dinner, my dad, two uncles, brother, two cousins and I climbed the ladder to my little cousins' treehouse (in the pouring rain) and smoked Cuban cigars. From Fidel. Definitely one of the highlights of 2005.

Merry Christmas to you all. Be warm and safe and happy.

End of the Year Reflection (Take the first sentence or 2 from the first post of each month of 2005. That's your year in review.):

January: "Before last week, I had never once, in my life, lost my voice. Laryngitis sucks."
February: "I love coming home smelling like his cigarettes."
March: "Best spring break ever. And it's only Tuesday."
April: "I was thinking today about how I haven't been updating as much recently as I have in the past."
May: "Up to Binghamton in a few hours for my brother's graduation."
June: "So. Music Man 2005."
July: "Guess who finally has internet in her house? This bitch."
August: "With all the bad things that have been happening this summer, it's really surprising (and encouraging) that I'm still upbeat."
September: "Evelyn. In The Shape of Things."
October: (apparently I was busy in October.)
November: "Yeah, I'm updating. No big whoop."
December: "This morning was the first up til dawn experience of the semester. and it was good times."

this morning was the first up til dawn experience of the semester. and it was good times. maybe my lack of patience with people and situations that arose this semester will die down in the new year. it'd be nice to come back refreshed for my last semester here, to get back into adoring the people i've met along the way. then again, maybe it won't change and i'll be all the more ready to leave.

it was interesting talking to the straights alumni last night, about the prospect of leaving and such. about being ready to not be at wagner, but not being ready to be anywhere else. and it's weird that some of them are still getting settled, but it's good to know people are managing, i guess.

oh and also, i look forward to playing a black girl on the mainstage.

Being home on this "let's revisit everything we've left behind for the past 4 years" weekend, I have revisited alot of things. One of them being past livejournal entries. And it was good to be able to return to a moment in time caught so succinctly. So of course, I was inspired to document this moment in time. Deal with it, I guess.

It has certainly been a notable weekend thus far. Nyack Wednesday night for the biggest bar night of all bar nights. Waiting in line while it's snowing is not so fun. Nor is seeing someone you weren't ready to see hanging all over someone you weren't expecting to see being hung on. Spending the night with your brother and his friends, and watching a group of male friends in all their abusive glory is fun. Running into people so far in your past that no drama has remained is also fun. Getting drunk and laughing and catching up, also fun.

Thanksgiving day was great in and of itself. Just the four of us at the house. Lovely and homey and relaxing. Except for Trivial Pursuit. Why do they make me play it when I'm clearly the least knowledgable person in the house?

Packed day yesterday. Up at 4:45 am to try the Best Buy sale with my dad. We walked in the store and right back out. Not worth it, but an interesting excursion none the less. Pulled up to the diner at about 6 am, at which point my dad said "This is the most sensible thing we've done yet today." Back to bed for a bit, then out for a bite with Diana. It was such a pleasure to catch up with her, and compare experiences from Wednesday night. Who's still in love with whom, who got sloppy drunk, etc. Further catching up last night, when we returned to Nyack. Spent some time with Kathryn, Coleen and Diana, and it was just like old times. Except that we were legally drinking in a bar. And we're all slightly different people now, apart and together. But the dynamics were the same, and the laughs. And that was great.

Who knows what will happen this evening. Trying to work on my art history research for my impending paper, but it's so easy to get distracted. Maybe I'll get to see Melanie again, maybe I'll get to see the person missing from my weekend who popped up in a teasing cameo appearance in the streets of Nyack last night. We'll see.

Hope yours was a blessed, safe and wonderful holiday weekend.

yeah, i'm updating. no big whoop.

before senior year, i never would have been able to drop everything and come home when i was sick. and yet, i abandoned wagner for the better part of a week. all in the name of mental and physical health. so holler.

growing up is bizarre.

i'll be back soon.
